For the first time in over 30 years, travelers will be able to fly directly between Belgrade and Toronto starting May 23, 2026. The long-anticipated route strengthens Belgrade’s growing transatlantic network, which already includes direct flights to New York and Chicago.
Air Serbia flights between Belgrade’s Nikola Tesla Airport and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) will operate twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, using Airbus A330-200 aircraft.
The final direct flight from Belgrade to Toronto took off back in May 1992. In the decades that followed, travelers had to make the journey with layovers, connecting through major hubs instead. Today, the number of passengers flying between the two cities is estimated at nearly 50,000 annually.
“This strategic step marks the beginning of a new chapter in the history of our company and represents a continuation of Serbia’s economic, commercial, and cultural development,” said Jiří Marek, CEO of Air Serbia. “Toronto is known as one of the world’s most important destinations with a large Serbian diaspora, so the significance of this direct service goes beyond economic and commercial considerations.”
Expanding into the North American market marks another step toward Belgrade’s goal of becoming a major transit hub linking Europe and North America. With direct flights already established to New York JFK and Chicago O’Hare, and now Toronto, Miami is said to be next on the list. The Belgrade–Toronto route, spanning 4,006 nautical miles (7,419 km), will rank as Toronto’s fourth-longest European connection. (sources: Air Serbia, FlightDrama, photo: Sevcan Alkan)
