Given that current accommodation capacities are insufficient for the influx of over 2.7 million visitors expected to arrive in Belgrade for Specialized EXPO 2027, the government plans to expand the city’s accommodation options by adding boat hotels.
As reported by Nova ekonomija, Serbia aims to have boat hotels operational from December 2026 to November 2027 and is currently looking for a company to execute the project. The conceptual designer will select three potential locations: two on the Sava River and one on the Danube River.
Each location must be designed to include up to five docking areas arranged consecutively, with each area capable of accommodating two boat hotels. The maximum dimensions for each boat will be 135 meters in length and 12 meters in width. The selection criteria will also consider the site’s transportation links, proximity to public transport, availability of essential utilities (including electricity, internet, potable water, waste collection, and disposal services), and any possible negative effects on the safety of water traffic.
Specialized EXPO 2027 is set to take place predominantly in the Surčin suburb from May 15 to August 15, 2027, under the theme “Play for Humanity – Sport and Music for All.”
This World Fair will bring transformative changes to Belgrade, with workers now tirelessly constructing extensive infrastructure and facilities. The centerpiece of the project is Serbia’s National Stadium, boasting a seating capacity of approximately 52,000 spectators.
Additional developments include a new Belgrade Fair, an Aquatic Center, a residential complex with 1,500 apartments, theme parks and water parks, an Aquarium and Dolphinarium, and new museums. Moreover, Serbia will be among the pioneering countries to introduce a flying taxi service, with revolutionary eVTOL vehicles set to be available for transportation at the event. (photo: Uta Scholl)
