This December I visited the Garden of Lights “Alice in Wonderland” in Belgrade’s Ada Ciganlija. It is an international exhibition of light sculptures that is now being hosted in Serbia for the first time. I’ll share my experiences here.
How to Get There?
The exhibition is located on the Makiš side of Ada Ciganlija, at the very beginning of it, near the Lidl supermarket. It is not hard to find, as you can see the light sculptures from a distance.
If you’re arriving by car, you can park at the big paid parking lot, which is right next to the exhibition entrance, or you can park for free near the Lidl supermarket, on the side of the road. Due to the nature of the exhibition, it is open after the sun sets, so this winter, on the day I visited, it was open from 4 p.m.
There are also public transport options, as there are bus stops in the vicinity.
Buying the Tickets
I bought the tickets at the entrance, although you can also purchase them online. They have several ticket prices (babies, children, adults, seniors, etc). When I visited, the tickets were discounted 30%, which was a nice incentive, so I paid 900 RSD for myself and 700 RSD for my child.
Exhibition “Alice in Wonderland” 2023/2024
The Garden of Lights features a nice walking path with classical music in the backdrop. The pathway is covered with plastic, so you don’t have to worry about mud. The directions are clear to follow and it takes about an hour to see the entire exhibition. The sculptures are magical and I feel it is an especially entertaining experience for children. This is definitely a perfect evening activity for families.
Midway through your walk, you will see several food stands with popcorn, chimney cake, etc. We bought small popcorn, it cost 200 RSD. Also, there are toilets, but I haven’t used one, I suppose they are ok.
When we exited, a man at the gate asked us if we had completed a quiz, offering a small gift. Since we hadn’t been informed about it at the entrance, we hadn’t taken the quiz. Whatever, no big deal.
Final Verdict
The exhibition is beautiful, although I would say it is the best experience for parents with children. I really like the music that sets a magical atmosphere. If you would like to check out the exhibition but feel that it is out of your budget, you can take a stroll alongside the area and get at least a glimpse of the light spectacle.
If you have any questions regarding directions or specifics about the exhibition, feel free to ask in the comments section below. Additionally, if you’ve had the chance to explore the Garden of Lights in Belgrade, I’d love to hear about your impressions—feel free to share your experience!
