Amidst its urban chaos, Belgrade hides countless tranquil pockets that transport you away from the city’s bustle. One such hidden gem is the Košutnjak running track, known in Serbian as trim staza.
Belgrade is notorious for its traffic jams and fast-paced life which seem to overshadow the existence of numerous serene havens and natural marvels nestled not far from the hustle and bustle. Among these sanctuaries is the running track in Košutnjak, situated on the periphery of the city’s majestic forest, in Kneza Višeslava Street.
Activities for All Generations
The running track in Košutnjak is popular among all age groups. Whether it’s families enjoying walks or runners training for marathons, everyone can find something that caters to their interests. It’s precisely this diversity that makes the running track in Košutnjak one of the most frequented recreational spots in Belgrade.
Facilities on the Running Track
Along the circular 1.2 km long track, one can find 14 stations with outdoor fitness equipment, allowing visitors to combine cardio workouts with strength exercises. Additionally, there are several rest areas and benches where visitors can take a break or simply relish in the tranquility of nature.
Within the circular path lies a vast flat space with grass and trees, perfect for diverse activities and picnics.
Furthermore, the site offers a range of amenities, encompassing handball, volleyball, and basketball courts, a tennis club, an indoor soccer field, a café bar, and a restaurant.
You’re not allowed to bring strollers or walk dogs on the track, but some people don’t follow these rules.
Easy Access by Car and Public Transport
Convenience is another aspect that makes this place popular. There is a nice parking area right next to the track, although it can be full on the weekends, especially when the weather is beautiful. However, there is an alternative, as you can park near the Košutnjak swimming pools in the vicinity. Moreover, there are bus stops nearby, in Blagoja Parovića Street.
Safety
Signs along the track indicate that the entire area is under video surveillance for added security. Moreover, the site is well-lit, ensuring a safe environment for walking or running even during nighttime.
Being a woman, I’ve strolled there during darker hours, especially in winter when night falls early, at 4 p.m. I felt safe, but certain parts of the path do feel isolated. I prefer daytime for my walks. Here you can read my general safety guide for female travelers in Belgrade.
Conclusion
The running track in Košutnjak represents a true urban oasis that allows the citizens of Belgrade to escape the city’s hustle and reconnect with nature. Whether you’re seeking a space for running, walking, or outdoor workouts, this area offers everything you need, providing a unique combination of physical activity and natural surroundings.
